FAQ: How can I pay for my investments?

You can use "cash" (meaning cheque, transfer of funds by internet, bill payment etc) for all funds. Most funds allow you to use SRS, and many allow you to pay using CPF savings. Do not pay until you have placed your order. After you have placed your order, payments instructions will be emailed to you (under "Next Steps" of your order form). Money sent without any corresponding order will not be invested and may cause delays for order matching. Such money could be refunded.

Importantly, for all trades the deal date is based on the time your payment reaches the custodian, not the time you place the order.

Please note that the following incurs charges of SGD25 per payment handling:

  • insufficient funds - eg: bounced cheques, bounced deductions from CPF or GIRO
  • unidentified or mismatched funds, typically because you did not indicate the Navigator plan number (starting with "N") in your transfer or on your cheque
  • request to return balance due to your overpayment
IMPORTANT: Your payments are processed by Navigator in the chronological order that your Invest orders are placed (oldest orders get marked as paid first). For example, if you place two Invest orders for $10,000 the first (older) order will receive the money, even if you intended the money to flow into the second order. Invest orders for which no payment is made will only be cancelled after 21 calendar days. You will need to submit a new order if you still intend to invest.

The summary above reflects how you may pay for an investment done through dollarDEX, and does not necessarily reflect the full extent of these banks' services in general. Details correct to the best of our knowledge. Note for all cash payments for investments done via dollarDEX be aware you are not paying dollarDEX Investments!

Please check with your bank to verify services, fees, limits and transfer times. If your transfer limit is $5,000 per day (for example) and you want to pay $10,000 it is acceptable to make two (or more) transfers. Many transfers take at least 1 working day to reach the custodian, and sometimes longer.

You may pay for RSPs (Regular Savings Plans) using CPFIS-OA, CPFIS-SA, SRS, and GIRO. You cannot pay for RSPs using other methods such as cheque or internet banking.

For all methods of payment: If you are sending a cheque issued by a third party (for example, your spouse wrote the cheque) or transferring from a 3rd party payor (for example, the payment is from your spouse's bank account) who is not one of the holders of this account at dollarDEX, please furnish via your registered email address the following to validate the 3rd party payment -
1) Copy of payor's NRIC
2) Declaration of relationship to payor, and reason for the 3rd party payment

Details by method

Cheque.

Cheques should be payable to Navigator Trust Account. Clients should write the Navigator Investment Plan Account number (i.e. in format NV9999999-999 displayed during purchase and in the confirmation email), client's name and NRIC number on the back of the cheque. Cheques should be sent to:

Navigator Trust Account
4 Shenton Way
SGX Centre 2 #01-01
Singapore 068807

Cheques may be handed in person to the cashier (please approach reception for assistance on how to hand monies over to cashier, you will be directed to take a queue number) at the above address from 8.45 am to 5.30 pm, Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays.

Cheques handed to the cashier at the above address before 9am will be accepted on the same working day, subject to a single day maximum of S$100,000 per client. This uncleared basis is not guaranteed and may not be applied for any reason determined by dollarDEX or Navigator. So for example, any subscription of an amount greater than S$100,000 per day per client will be processed on a cleared basis.

USD cheques are processed on cleared basis, regardless of amount, and usually take 2-3 business days to clear.

Internet banking: DBS Bill Payment.

Bill payment is available under DBS Internet Banking (click for example screen), with a default limit of $5,000 on daily transfer amount. You may increase this limit to a maximum of $500,000 via the bank's website. Select Navigator Trust Account and key in the reference field, the Navigator Investment Plan Account number (format NV9999999-999). If you do not yet have a Plan Account number, input your full NRIC number (format S1234567X).

Please note that DBS Bill Payment is not instant and could take at least 1 working day to reach the custodian. Clients can now have the flexibility to update either:
1. NV format
2. N format (old reference prior to 3rd Oct 2016)
3. NRIC number

However, your NV header/sub account number (format NV9999999-999) is preferred if you have one, for the ease of our matching of monies.

Important: if you don't enter your Navigator Investment Plan Account as a reference number with 3rd-party transfers there is a high chance your payment will not be identified. dollarDEX and Navigator cannot backdate trades because of unidentified payment, nor is any interest paid on unidentified payments.

Internet banking: 3rd-party transfers.

Navigator accepts the new payment feature - FAST. FAST payment allows you to perform internet funds transfer across banks (for the banks participating on FAST) whereby the beneficiary account will receive the monies on the same day. Please make your FAST payment at least 45 minutes before the daily cut off time, in order for your order to be paid the same day. Note that payment status in your online account is not instant and will only be updated after each business day.

3rd-party transfers are available from most banks including DBS, OCBC, UOB, Citibank, SCB. Transfers usually take 2-4 working days to reach the custodian.

With 3rd-party transfers sometimes the only place to enter the reference number (Navigator Investment Plan Account number in format NV9999999-999) is when you first set up the payee although this might vary between banks. This could be a prompt for "Your initials", "How you want payer's name to appear in 3rd party statement", "Message to payee", "Reference number" or similar. For banks where reference numbers is fixed when setting up payee you may need to create multiple payees if you have multiple cash accounts at dollarDEX.

If you are asked for the account name please use "Navigator Trust Account" or you could shorten it to "Navigator Trust AC".

For Standard Chartered Bank, client's reference is not transmitted over to Navigator, and for other banks if you are not able to add your reference number in your transfer details, you may wish to check directly with your bank on how to ensure that the plan number reference is shown to the beneficiary bank (Navigator/Aviva). Ensure the following information reaches Navigator (investors may email it to navigator_ops@aviva-asia.com):
1. Investor's Name
2. Investor's NRIC or passport number
3. Navigator Plan Account Number
4. Amount transmitted, and details of multiple transfers (if any).
5. Date of transmission
6. Which Navigator bank account you transferred to, that is, Citibank or DBS

For DBS, if you've previously used DBS Internet Banking with 3rd-party transfer for payments to dollarDEX prior to 3 June 2006, it will now send payment to the incorrect account. Please delete that old payee in your list to prevent wrong payments.

Above is correct to the best of our knowledge but the banks could change any of this without notice to us. Please check with your bank to be sure.
