Awards

dollarDEX has won a number of awards and nominations, notably those based on audited financials:

  • Institutional Investor Global Top 30 in online finance (March 2003). We are the only Singapore firm in the list, and one of only 6 Asian firms.
  • Top 3 in e50 dotcom in 2001, an annual ranking by Accenture and the Singapore Business Times, supported by the Economic Development Board and the Infocommunications Authority of Singapore. This is one of the few rankings based on audited financials. Earlier in 2000, dollarDEX was placed 4th in 2000, ahead of listed firms such as SPH AsiaOne, AsiaContent, and MediaRing. It is also one of two to move ahead in the ranks.
  • A winner of Intelligent20 Award given out in January 2002, by Intelligent Enterprise, for technological excellence.
  • Nominations for 'Hottest Internet start-up' and 'Best B2C service' in the 2000 Asia Internet Awards
  • Nominations for Far Eastern Economic Review's Asian Innovation Awards in 2000 and 2001, including rare double nominations in 2000.

Media coverage

dollarDEX is regularly covered in the press and by analysts, at the rate of at least once a week since our founding! Examples:
  • Goldman Sachs. "A nifty financial portal that can help reshape consumer banking."
  • Asian Banker Journal. "Probably the smartest players in the retail financial services industry in Southeast Asia today."
  • Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. "Asian banking systems have not yet experienced the onslaught of aggregators in their markets. So far there is none, bar one - dollarDEX."
  • MIT Sloan School of Management. Core of a business school case study.
  • Singapore Straits Times. Featured as one of the "50 Movers and Shakers."
  • Coverage by the World Bank, United Airlines' Hemisphere, as well as regularly by the regional and local press.

Thought leadership

Much of the media mention was due to thought leadership on issues of the day. We recently also published a well-received book called "Insider trading - an insider's guide to intelligent investing." The foreword is by Dr. Mark Mobius, President of Templeton's Emerging Markets Group.
  • "The book to read if you want to become a better investor in Singapore or anywhere else in the world."
Dr Mark Mobius, President of Templeton's Emerging Markets Group
  • "The local crop of financial planning books range from fairly stodgy academic fare to superficial scribblings that really aren't worth the cover price. Mr Firth's book is a vast improvement...the book urges people to demand the best from financial service providers; and to lower their expectations of returns. If after reading it, investors are better equipped to become smart buyers, the book would have gone a long way in nudging people towards self-education - surely the best protection against poor advice."
Genevieve Cua, Business Times, 10 Jul 2002
  • "Whether you’re already a millionaire, a college graduate or a retiree, Insider Trading is a comprehensive and easy-to-read manual on how to make the most of your finances and future by becoming a more intelligent investor. With a particular focus on the investor in Singapore, Insider Trading provides in-depth information on investment products and tools, where to get the best advice, and ways to maximise your returns. A compelling read."
    Amanda Drury, CNBC Anchor
  • "An easy to read, well written book that contains invaluable investment insights for all types of Singaporean investors."
Simon Jagger, Schroder Investment Management (Singapore) Ltd
  • "An undiscovered blueprint of the global financial treasure house revealed for the first time here. You can't afford not to read this!"
Benny Tan, Senior Vice President, Financial Consultant (Private Client) Salomon Smith Barney Singapore, Citigroup Inc.
  • "Accumulating assets to provide sufficient income after retirement is one of the most critical issues facing Singaporeans. The current investing behaviour of the average Singaporean is clearly not going to produce the optimal outcome for each individual. Chris Firth's book is a very readable and practical guide to improving your investing, for whatever objective you have in mind."
Lindsay Mann, CEO, First State Investments (Singapore)
  • "Arguably the best book written in Singapore for the Singaporean investor or financial professional."
    Dominic Chow, Aberdeen Asset Management
